There is no organized lifestyle scene in Bayonne itself. Manhattan has a long-established one, but it operates mostly after dark, which puts it out of reach for a same-day port call with a fixed reboarding time. This is a port to note for a future land trip to New York, not to chase in a single afternoon.
Getting Around
Rideshare and taxi are the most practical options directly from the terminal. The PATH train is workable if you're comfortable getting to a station on your own, and it avoids city traffic, but it adds walking and transfer time on both ends. Whatever you choose, treat anything in Manhattan as a minimum two to three hour round trip before you've spent any time there, and build in a wide safety margin against all-aboard.

Be honest with yourself about what this call is for. Cape Liberty is really a doorway to New York City, and if that's your interest, this is a great port. But for lifestyle or naturist travel specifically, there's nothing at the pier, the city's scene only comes alive at night when you'll already be back on board, and Gunnison Beach is too far to combine with anything else in an eight-hour window. Pick one goal, keep your expectations modest, and treat this stop as a preview for a future land trip rather than the main event.

New Jersey has no clothing-optional public beach under state or municipal control. The state lewdness statute is N.J.S.A. 2C:14-4, and the State Park Service code separately prohibits exposure of the genitals, pubic region, buttocks or female breasts where they may be seen by others. Shore towns ban it by ordinance and the courts have upheld them.
Gunnison Beach at Sandy Hook is the region's one genuine clothing-optional beach, and Cape Liberty is the closest cruise terminal to it — roughly twenty minutes by road. It works because it is not New Jersey land in the governing sense: it sits inside Gateway National Recreation Area and is federal ground under the National Park Service. The Park Service describes part of the area as used by visitors as a clothing-optional area, which is an acknowledgement of practice rather than a legal designation. Be clear-eyed about that: it is tolerated, not statutorily protected.
What is actually enforced there is the Gateway-specific federal rule adopting New York's public lewdness offence — so being unclothed is not itself the offence, while lewd conduct is, and it is charged federally. There are no lifeguards at Gunnison, parking is booked ahead in season, and the park is cashless.
New Jersey's two landed naturist clubs, at Stockholm and Basking Ridge, are private members' land — the other lawful route — and both admit visitors by prior arrangement rather than walk-up. Photography is the common trap: assume no phones or cameras at any clothing-optional beach or club.
