Cinque Terre is remarkably close to La Spezia's cruise terminal. The train station is about a 10-15 minute walk from where ships dock, and trains reach the first Cinque Terre village (Riomaggiore) in just 10 minutes. You can easily visit multiple villages during a port day.
Yes, Pisa is about 50 miles from La Spezia and reachable in roughly an hour by organized shore excursion or train. Most cruise port calls allow enough time to see the Leaning Tower, cathedral, and baptistery before returning to your ship.
The regional train is the most efficient option. From La Spezia Centrale station, trains run frequently to all five villages. You can buy a Cinque Terre card for unlimited train travel between villages, or book a ship excursion that includes transportation and a guide.
While La Spezia is a working port city without major tourist attractions, it has a pleasant historic center with local markets, cafes, and the Naval Technical Museum. Most cruisers prefer to use their limited port time visiting nearby Cinque Terre or Pisa instead.
Plan for at least 5-6 hours to comfortably visit two or three villages, including travel time from the port. If your ship docks for 8-10 hours, you'll have time to hike between villages, enjoy a leisurely lunch, and explore at a relaxed pace.
