The cruise terminal is located right at the harbor entrance, about 1.5 miles from the town center. You can take a shuttle bus, taxi (roughly 10 minutes), or enjoy a scenic 25-30 minute walk along the waterfront promenade into the heart of Mahon's old town.
Port Mahon uses the Euro (EUR) as it's part of Spain. Credit cards are widely accepted in shops and restaurants, but it's helpful to have some cash for smaller vendors, market purchases, or beach cafés in more remote locations.
Cala Mesquida and Cala Presili are closest to Mahon, reachable in 20-30 minutes. For the island's most famous turquoise waters, Cala Macarella and Cala Macarelleta are about 45 minutes away and often included in organized shore excursions with beach time built in.
Port Mahon is very easy to explore independently. The town center is walkable, well-signed, and English is commonly spoken due to tourism and British historical ties. Taxis and local buses are readily available if you want to venture to beaches or villages beyond walking distance.
Menorcan cheese (Queso Mahón) is the island's most famous product—a semi-hard cow's milk cheese with Protected Designation of Origin status. The island is also known for its gin distilleries, a tradition dating to British rule, and abarcas (traditional leather sandals).
