What it does offer, if you know where to look, is a genuinely secluded clothing-optional cove, a couple of adults-only pool escapes, and enough beach and boat options to fill an easy eight hours as a couple without ever touching the family-cruise crowds.

Enforcement has reportedly stepped up at times, so treat it as an unofficial, tolerated spot rather than a designated beach, and read the room before you settle in.

Adults-Only Pool Time, Two Ways

If a beach with a footpath isn't your idea of a relaxing day, St Thomas has two adults-only pool options that ask nothing more of you than a taxi ride. The Ritz-Carlton, St. Thomas sells day access to its adults-only infinity pool through ResortPass, giving you a few quiet, child-free hours on a genuinely upscale property. In town, The Pink Palm Hotel is a small adults-only boutique hotel with its own pool and hot tub, and its downtown location makes it the easiest of the two to reach without eating into your day.

St. John, If Your Timing Allows

The Saint Resort in Cruz Bay, St. John is an 18+ day club and pool scene with a swim-up bar, and it is the closest thing this region has to a purpose-built adults-only day-club. The catch is distance: between the taxi to Red Hook, the ferry crossing, and the return trip, you are realistically looking at 60-90 minutes each way. Only consider this if your ship gives you real slack against all-aboard, not as a casual add-on.

What Isn't Here

There is no organized lifestyle or swinger scene on St Thomas, no clubs or events oriented toward couples in that sense, and nothing catering to a day-tripping cruise crowd on that front. Tootsy's Gentlemen's Club is the island's one openly advertised adult nightlife venue, but its doors open at 9pm, long after any ship has sailed, so it belongs to a different itinerary entirely.

Getting Around

Everything on this list sits 20-25 minutes from the Havensight or Crown Bay piers by taxi, except The Pink Palm Hotel, which is close enough to walk from the West Indian Company dock or take a five-minute cab. Taxis on St Thomas are plentiful at the piers but not metered in the way you may expect, so agree a fare before you get in. Round-trip to Little Magens Bay eats more of your day than the distance suggests once you add the walk over the rocks, so budget accordingly against your all-aboard time. St. John is the outlier: only attempt it if your ship's schedule gives you genuine margin, since the ferry crossing alone can undo a tight day.

Pick one or two of these rather than trying to chain them all together, and you'll have a better day ashore than most of the ship.

The Rules Here — US Virgin Islands

The US Virgin Islands has no legal clothing-optional beach. Territorial law at 14 V.I.C. 1022 makes it an offence to expose the private parts in any public place or where others are present to be offended. The territory's own visitor guidance puts it plainly: public nudity is illegal and consequently there are no designated clothing-optional beaches.

Toplessness gets no separate carve-out. There is no provision legalising it and the only express exception in the statute is breastfeeding. Treat topless as prohibited rather than merely frowned upon — it sits in the same discretionary space as full nudity.

What happens in practice is tolerance, not permission, and it is location-specific. A small number of hard-to-reach beaches have a long-standing informal reputation; the mainstream managed beaches do not. Magens Bay, the flagship beach, posts an explicit rule requiring a bathing suit — the quiet cove around the headland is a different beach with a different reputation, and confusing the two is the common mistake.

One further catch: the same statute covers appearing on any public street within town limits in bathing costume or similarly abbreviated attire. Cover up before you leave the sand, particularly in Charlotte Amalie. This is general information rather than legal advice.
