$564 for One, $566 for Two: CruiseHuddle Audit Examines Solo Cruise Base Fares
October review of 31 fare comparisons across 10 departures finds dedicated solo cabins aren’t always the cheapest option

MIAMI, FL — October 23, 2026 — A solo traveler was quoted $564 in net cruise fare. Two passengers sharing the exact same cabin were quoted $566 combined—just $2 more, before taxes and fees.
That finding comes from CruiseHuddle’s October 6, 2026 pricing audit, which examined 31 displayed fare comparisons across 10 departures on four cruise lines. The review highlights why travelers sailing alone should compare complete cabin prices, dedicated solo categories and booking conditions.
In the same-cabin example, taxes and fees brought the quoted total to $699.33 for one passenger versus $836.66 for two. The solo traveler’s total was 67.2% higher than the average per-person sharing price, while the underlying net cruise fare was nearly identical to the couple’s combined fare.
The audit identified three practical findings:
- Dedicated solo cabins weren’t always cheaper. On one departure, a solo balcony cabin was quoted at $689, versus $598 for a guarantee balcony booked for one—a $91 difference. The guarantee option allowed the cruise line to assign the cabin, making location choice and booking conditions important tradeoffs.
- The cheaper option changed by departure. On another sailing, the dedicated solo balcony quote of $639 beat the $648 guarantee balcony quote. Travelers could not reliably identify the cheaper option from the category label alone.
- Selected promotional fares offered smaller solo premiums. Four adults-only departures produced 12 comparisons across three fare tiers, with tax-inclusive solo premiums ranging from 20.7% to 31.9%. These were selected promotional observations, not typical year-round rates.
“A cabin labeled ‘solo’ should be the start of your comparison, not the end,” said Jay Kuberski, co-founder of CruiseHuddle. “The useful question is what your actual trip costs—and what you give up to get the lower price.”
CruiseHuddle recommends selecting one guest before evaluating advertised fares, comparing dedicated solo categories against other cabins available to one passenger, and reviewing cabin assignment, included benefits and cancellation terms.
The audit is a selected pricing snapshot, not an industry-wide average or a ranking of the cheapest cruise lines. Prices were observed October 6 in U.S. dollars, including taxes and fees unless separately identified. Multiple comparisons on one departure are not independent sailings. Prices, eligibility and availability can change.
