Fort Lauderdale is one of the better-stocked ports on this list for open-minded travelers, but almost everything worth mentioning is a car ride away and geared toward overnight stays rather than a few hours between gangway and all-aboard. If you have a full day and don't mind a taxi or rideshare, there's a real scene here; if you're only counting hours ashore, plan accordingly.

No designated clothing-optional beach in Broward; the nearest sanctioned one is half an hour south in Miami-Dade.

The Lifestyle Scene Is Real, But Inland

Broward County has a long-standing on-premise lifestyle club, and Miami's larger, more active club is within reach if you're willing to spend most of a day getting there and back. Both are geared toward evening hours, which makes them a poor fit for a same-day port call and a better fit for a pre- or post-cruise night in the area. If your itinerary includes a hotel night on either end of the cruise, this is when these venues actually make sense.

Wilton Manors and Las Olas for an Evening Out

Wilton Manors is one of the most established LGBTQ+-friendly nightlife strips in the country, with a dense run of bars and late-night venues, including at least one adult entertainment club with a specialty booking. Las Olas Boulevard offers a more mainstream, upscale strip of restaurants and lounges that stays lively into the evening. Both are worth an evening if you're staying over, but they're a stretch for a single port day given the drive and the fact that neither really gets going until after dark.

An Adults-Only, Clothing-Optional Overnight Option

South of the port in Hollywood sits a small adults-only, clothing-optional resort with a rooftop pool and an on-site weekend nightclub, built specifically for a couple who wants a nude-friendly space with lifestyle-friendly energy. It's not a beach day activity and doesn't work as a quick stop between excursions, but it's a genuine option for the night before you board or the night after you disembark. Check their site directly for current policies before booking.

Clothing-Optional Beach Is a Day Trip, Not a Port Excursion

Broward itself has no designated clothing-optional beach. The nearest sanctioned one sits roughly 45 minutes to an hour south in Miami-Dade, which puts it well outside a comfortable round trip on a cruise day with a fixed all-aboard time. It belongs on a pre- or post-cruise itinerary, not a shore excursion.

If You Want Naturism, Look Further North

There's an AANR-affiliated naturist campground north of the port, but it's roughly 90 minutes to two hours away near Port St. Lucie, squarely outside port-day territory. It's worth knowing about if you're extending your Florida trip on either end, but it isn't something to build a cruise day around.

Getting Around

Nothing on this list is within walking distance of the cruise terminal. A taxi or rideshare to Wilton Manors or Las Olas runs 10-15 minutes each way; the Hollywood resort is about 12-15 minutes south; Miami Velvet or Haulover Beach are 35-60 minutes one-way, which eats most of an 8-hour port day once you add return travel and buffer for traffic. If you're on a strict all-aboard time, treat anything past Wilton Manors or Las Olas as a pre- or post-cruise activity rather than a port-day plan.

Know Before You Go

  • Build in generous buffer time for South Florida traffic, especially returning to port in the afternoon.
  • Lifestyle clubs and the Hollywood resort operate mainly in the evening, so they suit an overnight stay better than a day in port.
  • Confirm any venue's current entry rules, dress code, and couples policy on their own site before you go, since these change without notice.
  • Away from designated clothing-optional space, standard beach attire applies everywhere else in the county.
  • Discretion is the norm at on-premise clubs; photography is generally not welcome inside these spaces.

The Honest Take

If you're only in port for the day, be realistic: this isn't a port where the lifestyle or clothing-optional scene comes to you. Everything worth doing sits 15 minutes to an hour off the pier, and most of it only comes alive after dark, which doesn't line up with a same-day cruise schedule. Where Fort Lauderdale actually earns its keep is as a pre- or post-cruise stop: add a night on either end and you've got a genuine on-premise club scene, a clothing-optional resort with its own nightclub, and one of the better LGBTQ+ nightlife strips in the country, all within a short drive of each other. Show up expecting a quick port-day highlight and you'll be disappointed; show up with an extra night built in and this is one of the stronger stops on the map.

The Rules Here — Broward County, Florida

Florida Statute 800.03 makes it an offence to be naked in public in a vulgar or indecent manner, but it carves out anyone merely naked at any place provided or set apart for that purpose. That exception is what makes designated clothing-optional areas and private naturist property lawful, and everything else follows from it.

Broward County has no designated clothing-optional beach. The nearest sanctioned one is Haulover Beach Park in Miami-Dade, roughly half an hour south of Port Everglades, where the county has set apart the northern third of the beach between lifeguard towers 12 and 16 and has done since 1991. The next nearest is near Fort Pierce, well over an hour north. On any other public beach in Broward, including Fort Lauderdale Beach itself, clothing is required.

The other lawful route here is private property. A clothing-optional hotel or naturist club is land set apart for the purpose, which is why nudity is lawful inside the gates and unlawful the moment you leave. Access control — ID checks, memberships, day passes — is both the business model and the mechanism that keeps it lawful.

Female toplessness sits in a grey area outside a designated area and is legally risky on any public beach. Where you will reliably see it is on private property that permits it, which is the owner's choice rather than a public right, and it does not extend to the sand in front of the building.

The exception covers nudity, not behaviour. Sexual activity and lewd conduct remain illegal in a designated area exactly as anywhere else, and photographing other people without their consent will get you confronted or removed.
