Edge Repositioning Cruise, Vancouver to Hawaii
Rating Breakdown
Full Review
Vancouver as a departure port is fantastic. Easy to get to, well organized.
Edge is a beautiful ship
Victoria and the Hawaii ports were beautiful.
The first real negative, due to the route and time of year the majority of cruisers on board were much older retirees. 0 night life in club, some around the martini bar but was much more laid back vs fun and vibrant (at least late night)
Love the class, especially the 4 restaurant main dining room concept.
Casino was decent, biggest plus on Edge vs some others in her class is the inclusion of a casino bar with at the bar video poker.
Victoria, BC - was beautiful. The Butchart gardens didn’t disappoint.
Astoria, Oregon - was a bit bland. Not much to do, small port town.
Hilo, Hawaii - lots to do but not much walkable. Highly recommend hiring a car or taking a preplanned tour. Plenty of port time to see the Volcano.
Kona, Hawaii - reminded me of a small caribbean port. Shopping and restaurants walking distance from tender dock. Not much to do in terms of excursions (especially if you did volcano already). Deep sea fishing is supposed to be fantastic, if you have the time.
Honolulu, Hawaii - very touristy, especially around waikiki. On the good side, it’s pretty easy to uber to waikiki and walk around/take hop on/hop off bus to see the area. On the down side you need to travel much further to see some of the “classic Hawaii” landscapes on the wet side (east coast). Or the classic surfing spots on the north side of the Island….. Skip the Dole Plantation, huge letdown basically just a touristy shopping stop. Finally, Pearl Harbor is a must do, even if you don’t go out to the USS Arizona memorial. Seeing it really makes you think/reflective.
Would recommend for someone going once/wanting to see a bit of Hawaii. Would do it again but not high on my “do it again” list.
Pros
Beautiful ship and destinations. Half of the cruise is sea days so a plus if you enjoy those. Great for travelers, especially couples and retirees, looking for a low key relaxing trip.
Cons
Older low key crowd. Very little fun/party vibes. Ship was socially dead at night especially after 11.
Tips
If you have an overnight in Hawaii, rent a car and take some time to drive around and see the island on your own.
